CATH CHEGWIDDEN
A biblical creationist multi media artist.
Residing in Newcastle, NSW. Australia
"My greatest joy is to bring my God given gift to the sick and suffering and hospitals and aged care dementia units have become a precious area of witness and outreach"
Cath has exhibited in a number of medias including: ceramics - both functional and sculptural, oil and acrylic painting and wildlife illustration. Cath's commissioned works have included tapestries and banners, major leadlight window designs for local churches, interior designs, book illustrations, theological vestment and costume design and murals.
As Artist in Residence in care facilities Cath has created numerous murals and mixed media projects, many with patient and staff input. Cath is a published author and former Head Teacher in secondary schools in Creative and Performing Arts for 25 years as well as a lecturer in tertiary institutions.
A world traveller, she has enjoyed opportunities to use her God given gift to encourage others mainly in the East African nations of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Her greatest love is mural work particularly trompe l'oeil and creating illusions of space as well as deceiving the eye with faux finishes, which replicate a wide variety of surfaces including: timber, marble and stone textures.
Another great delight is being able to witness to others and through her work generate a sense of calm and peace in highly stressed environments. Cath acknowledges that it is by God's grace alone that she has had so many opportunities to do so. As she found herself in situations where in compassion she was listening to grieving and troubled family members and patients in hospital, she completed a chaplaincy course.
